The Jewish Guitar Chords Archive
SEARCH TIPS: Since most of the songs have Hebrew titles, you might have some difficulty finding the right string to use for your search (especially since the transliterations are horribly inconsistent). To make things easier, the search case insensitive and works for partial matches anywhere in the string. For example, if you're not sure a song is "Yisrael" or "Yisroel," search for "yisr" and both will appear in the results. If you're still having trouble finding your file, take a look at the complete list of all the chords in the database. If it's not there, we don't have it. Also, you can still download the entire archive in a convenient ZIP file.
Update: 05/17/2006 - Now that we're past sefira, I put up a whole slew of new chords and updated a bunch of old ones with better sounding arrangements. Many thanks to Gershon Seif for his input.
Update: 02/06/2006 - Thanks to Azriel Steiner's two recent submissions the chord archive has just topped 200 songs!!! Who knew there were that many songs which needed transcribing? Again, thanks to everyone for submitting and feel free to keep them coming!
Side note - I have two special requests if anyone can help: 1. The classic Meheira done by Miami Boys Choir (and probably others) and 2. Besamim's Eishet Hayil. Any help would be much appreciated.
Update: 01/29/2006 - New Chords feature is up and running again smoothly.
Update: 12/20/2005 - I've noticed the New Chords section is acting funny and displaying lots of older chords. This appears to be a bug in SQLite which I've been trying to fix. Everything else seems to be fine.
Update: 06/19/2005 - I just uploaded Piamenta - Leshana Haba'ah submitted by Izzy Kramer which now gives us 150 chords! Many thanks to all and kein yirbu!
Update: 06/10/2005 - For all you Firefox/Mozilla users out there, try our new search plugin!
Update: 2/12/2005 Shalom and welcome to the new and improved Jewish Guitar Chord Archive! What started out as an innocuous blog post has now evolved into a full PHP/SQL web-driven database. The old page will still be up and running, but it will now function more as a message board for requests and corrections. The actual chords will now be handled here. I pre-dated most of the chords so that the pages don't take too long to load (has to do w/the New Chords feature).
While this system might seem as overkill for 100+ files, there are two major advantages. First and foremost, it makes things much easier for me to add new songs and to do so quickly. Secondly, the archive has already grown far passed what I could have imagined and this way it will be able to handle future growth as well. For one example, I can now start accomodating the numerous requests for bass tabs! Yep, that's right - if I start getting enough submissions, this site can handle it so e-mail if you got 'em.
I've personally done most of the error checking, but I wouldn't be surprised if I missed a bug or two. If you see something broken please let me know so I can get to fixing it.
Finally, I have to give thanks to a couple of people without whom this would not have been possible. Avi Chermon is responsible for many of the Carlebach chords which came from his now defunct website. Since the launch of YUTOPIA, Izzy Kramer and Azriel Steiner have been incredible in sending in new chords and responding to requests from the message board. Last but not least, many thanks to Shaya Potter for his techinical assistance.
